Okay I feel like I can express this to those of you here on oppo. After the major wreck today that caused a red flag for an hour and a half I heard all the talking heads talking about how the track needs changes for the stock cars. But what really set me off was Newman's remarks calling Watkins Glen and antiquated track and should have major changes made so he can race it. I am sorry but but that is BULL the area in question where McDowell hit was the exit to the boot section of the track. I actually was planning on taking track side photos in that exact spot but decided to stay home for various reasons.
I thought about making a post saying that NASCAR has decided to renovate the track eliminating all right hand turns and adding concrete, but I figured the sarcasm might be lost.
Full disclosure: I am a life long resident of the Watkins Glen area and have been up at that track for every event for over 10 years, and work at the racing library in Watkins Glen and know the history of the track.
Thank you for your time.

Can I just say I hate the culture NASCAR brings and the fact it ruins racing all across america? Also damn two rants in a day? That's a first.

Yeah sorry about that. The NASCAR race today and the way they handled not only the Tony Stewart thing and the first red flag today just boiled my blood. I hope it doesn't come up tomorrow at work.

Ya I disagree with Newman's comments. Its not like there are unprotected concrete walls all around the track, its all ARMCO and its designed to have give to it. Honestly, I think the wreck would have been worse if there had been concrete walls there.

Hearing who know nothing about racing can be fairly cringeworthy. I'm imagining your blood will be boiling.

Great I just saw the deadspin article making fun of a friend of mine Rev. Fife who does the invocation..... Fuck NASCAR and Fuck Deadspin

Agreed, the track doesn't need to change, NASCAR and the drivers do. The whole incident would have been avoided if they just ran the proper full course and the drivers need to start treating road races with much more respect, they all drive like they're on an oval which obviously doesn't work.

I agree. Of course the talking heads including deadspin all they can do is try to stir shit up about the track, and a minister. Real Classy folks.

I know I'm late but it pissed me off too as someone who has grown up watching SVRA races there and knowing the only accidents there are NASCAR wrecks. If you can't drive it properly let some SCCA drivers take over for the weekend and you can stay home and see some real road racing.
